Poplar Barn, Saxted
The sympathetic conversion of a traditional timber frame barn which created a family home whilst respecting and preserving the original character and historic features. Key elements included retaining and showcasing the barn's exposed timber beams, using natural materials such as timber boarding, lime plaster & reclaimed wood, and incorporating traditional design elements that honour the building's rural heritage.
Modern interventions, including large glass panels and the first-floor bathroom pod finished in corrugated tin, are integrated in a subtle way to maximize natural light and create a balance between old and new. The layout embraces open-plan living, emphasising the barn’s spaciousness, high ceilings, and unique traditional charm.
